Is Koh Hong worth visiting, or is it overhyped?

It's genuinely worth it — but only if you engage with it properly. If you arrive on a speedboat join tour, spend 40 minutes on the main beach, and leave, you'll wonder what the fuss was about. If you kayak the lagoon, walk the viewpoint trail, and time your visit around the sandbar, it'll be one of the better days of your trip.

Is Koh Hong in Krabi or Phang Nga?

There are two islands called Koh Hong in Thailand. This one is in Krabi (officially Koh Lao Bi Le, within Tharn Bok Khorani National Park). There's a separate Koh Hong in Phang Nga Bay. They're completely different places — make sure you specify Krabi when booking.

Can you stay overnight on Koh Hong?

Yes — there's a basic camping area on the island. You bring your own tent, pay a small fee (~20 THB per night), and get the islands essentially to yourself after the day-trippers leave.

What's the difference between Koh Hong and the Hong Island Lagoon?

Koh Hong is the main island with the crescent beach. The lagoon (Thalae Nai / Hong Island Lagoon) is a separate, enclosed body of water behind the island, accessible by kayak through a narrow cliff gap. Both are worth visiting — but they're different experiences, and the lagoon requires timing around the tide.

How long do you need at Koh Hong?

A full day is ideal. Half-day tours exist but you'll have to choose between the lagoon, the sandbar, and the viewpoint — you won't have time for all three. If you want everything including a proper swim and lunch on the beach, plan for 6–7 hours on the water.
